Water outage

I used their showers when my boiler was broken - only marginally better than washing in the sink. They just dribble

This chimes with the report from Thames Water last night that the Crystal Palace pumping station was the suspected cause if our problems.

I was thinking more of people ,like me , who are hoping to have a swim.

Sorry, I’m still scarred by not having a boiler for weeks earlier this year. Oh well yes, I’m sure that trickle would suffice for your pre swim shower

I have a trickle of water from my kitchen tap, nothing upstairs, which speaks to a pressure issue.

How much of this is down to London’s Victorian cast-iron pipes?

I have pretty good pressure back here now.

Some of it is pre-Victorian!

I live on Ewelme Rd and we have no water …
still!

Nothing much coming out of the taps in Queenswood Road last night or this morning - but seems to be better now.

As it seems Twitter is best for updates. Am at work and refreshing my feed every hour  at least will force me to go to the gym today! (Shower and perhaps exercise beforehand).

My water is now back to full strength but it took about six hours from the first dribble in the kitchen tap to anything coming out of the upstairs shower.

I didn’t even know there was a reservoir in CP. Is there any way to easily find out where utilities come from based on postcode? For example, where the electricity substation serving the postcode is; where the telephone exchange is etc.?

Would make a good idea for a wiki topic that we can all help maintain.

Interesting question, but what would you do with the information? Or would it just be a fun list?

Curiosity, more than anything I guess… sometimes you hear of things affecting certain substations or exchanges or reservoirs etc. but it’s not always easy to tell if they have the potential to affect your home/postcode. I know I can search Thames Water to see if there’s any issues in my area based on my postcode but that doesn’t tell me where the supply comes from. Same with phone/broadband etc.

Maybe it’s not something anyone (apart from me) is terribly interested in. I’m not even sure if I would use it that much… maybe people looking at moving to an area might…

As far as source of water is concerned you may never be certain.

There is a Victorian based CI pipework network which has capacity to have water diverted along alternative routes.

And in more recent times we have had a major upgrade works in the form of large diameter concrete pipes that provide a cross-London circulation network. Its nearest manifestation was buried along the approximate line of the linear park between Bellingham and Catford.

Lovely. We should probably get it too. Thank you for good news.

Thames Water do, or at least did, have this information on their website. Sorry don’t have link to hand though.
