Red light runners at A205 / Perry Vale crossing

Has anyone else noticed that more often than not, vehicles drive straight through the first few seconds of the lights at this pedestrian crossing?

This seems to happen all the time, and it’s actually quite dangerous - vehicles going full pelt either to catch the amber or just because, well, it’s the Saff Circular…

Should we be looking at red light cameras here? Would they make a difference? Would they even be switched on?

The fact that this keeps happening suggests to me that there might be a visibility issue at the lights, or some other distraction.

Yep. Every morning and usually evening without fail. Nearly as annoying as people ending up parked across the crossing when the lights are on red (green for pedestrians), which didn’t happen when the don’t-block-the-box lines were in.

Yes - very typical people jumping lights. I lived on Westbourne Drive for 10 years & witnessed this on a regular occurrence. Always made a point of ‘going’ to step into the road & drivers having a ‘sheet’ moment, slow & offer a hand to say sorry.

Always meant to report to the Police. Traffic control would have made good £ if they had a camera on that junction.

Also cyclists going through. Often more precarious in terms of speed & limited opportunity to stop
