Hi! I’m new to the forum but wanted to post about my car being smashed into whilst it was parked on Perry Vale on New Year’s Eve. No one was hurt or in the car but the driver drove off without leaving details! It’s left my car totally wrote off and After losing my job this year because of covid this is heartbreaking. If any saw something or knows anything please get in touch!
I am so sorry this happened to you, it’s so horrible when somebody does this to you! I really hope someone has footage that can help you.
Thankyou
We need speed bumps and cameras on perry vale!
Sorry to hear what has happened to your car. Whilst I don’t disagree about camera’s I’m afraid putting speed bumps in probably won’t stop most of the speeding drivers. Sunderland Road has had speed bumps for years and still has plenty of speeding drivers!
Those speed bumps are so minimal, You can easily drive at 30+ without it having much effect. At the junction it’s basically flat and drivers enter and exit at high speed, you have to take life into your own hands to cross. Crazy as there’s a nursery on that corner and it’s a busy walkway.
Perhaps you can request footage from traffic cameras owned by Tfl? If you know the time bets are that the driver would have passed one on the south circular. Long shot though…
I don’t know the exact time unfortunately
It happened sometime in New Year’s Eve and it seems to be in a real black spot for footage and cameras. Im heartbroken someone could do this and there’s zero information and repercussions!
And they only got put in after a child was killed by a car there back in the late 80s.
Whilst we’re on bad junctions. The one at the end of Sydenham hill woods meets dulwich park. Really bad pedestrian crossing, no indication when it’s clear to cross.
Very sorry to hear about this. Looks nasty and expensive.
Mind if I suggest an edit to the thread title, though? ‘Hit and run’ is (I’d say) usually a phrase used in connection with a person being hit by a vehicle.
On the main point, however, I hope you catch the bar-steward and get your car sorted at minimal cost and inconvenience to you.
I’m afraid I don’t have info but I wanted to post anyway to say how sorry I am this happened to you - how awful, especially as it sounds as though you are already having a bad time.
Traffic was too fast in perry vale before the 20 limit came in and as there is no enforcement no one take any notice of the limit. And then things like this happen. I hope you have some luck finding more information.
I’ve edited the topic title.
Really sad to hear about this though and a terrible start to the new year.
Some people are very thoughtless though. Back in October I saw a learner driver slowly drive through Perry Village and side swipe a parked car right in front of me as I waited to cross. Both the driver and passenger (probably her mum) looked at me as I looked in horror as they slowly crunched by. I thought they were going to pull over up the road, but no, they just slowly drove on.
They were too far away to get their numberplate by the time I realised they were making their getaway at about 10mph. Unbelievable
Its getting to be like a jungle out there.
That is awful, & what a start to the new year. My daughter has had her car pranged on the side a couple of times overnight. Nothing too serious, but paint marks from the car concerned have been left. She doesn’t live locally.
Something horrendous though that didn’t happen was when she was waiting in traffic a man drove past at top speed & smashed her wing mirror clean off. She has only been driving for about 18 months & is a good driver, but she said it made the whole car shudder. She luckily wasn’t on her own at the time.
The man stopped a few yards ahead to check she & her boyfriend were ok, then just drove off, so they couldn’t get his number.
Getting a new wing mirror & fitting it was easy, but it really shook her up as you can imagine.
I’m really sorry to see this. I’ve checked my security camera but it only has a very narrow view of Perry Vale, and I couldn’t see anything on or around 31st December.
I believe a resident in Valentine Court (Block 21-32) used to have a camera pointing out of their window directly on to Perry Vale, which is very close to where this happened, it may be worth seeing if the camera is still there and speak to them?
Thankyou so much! I will pop over to Valentine court today. You aren’t sure which flat are you? Thanks
Amy
I’m not certain, but I believe it’s Flat 23. It can only be Flat 21, 22 or 23 if it follows the same numbering convention as the other blocks.
Do you live on perry vale? Thanks for checking your camera. It happened New Year’s Eve but my guess would be a drunk driver after midnight in the early hours of New Year’s Day morning! If you see anything! Thanks again x
I live in Valentine Court, just off Perry Vale, but my block is not on the main road so my view of PV is limited. I checked the camera from New Years Eve through to New Years Day and couldn’t see anything in the early hours. Even if it had, It’s quite far away and I don’t think you would get a plate number from my feed.
