The Horniman is continuing it’s program of online performances from their music gallery with this Yuletide themed event:

Marilyn’s Hear it Live! programme features two pieces which, although less well-known than the famous carols, are especially appropriate to Yuletide: one written for Advent and one for Christmas. The organ used in this performance is attributed to Joseph Beloudy of London and dates from c.1800. Unlike large church organs, it was designed with the more intimate spaces of domestic music rooms in mind. It, nevertheless, offers a good variety of contrasting stops. This pipe organ, like all of the period whether large or small, required the air to be physically pumped into the bellows either manually or by pedal. Here, as can be seen, the player is using a pedal. Modern organs use electric motors to carry out this task.
