I think the first thing we need to do is secure permission from LC to hold this event.
My thinking is that it would be held on the last day (or last 2 days) of the D Rd closure (which should be early December). So we would have to secure a round about date for permission with them initially then finalise the date nearer the time. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?
ETA I took out timing as general thoughts would probably be better at this stage.
We wouldn’t need permission for a road closure since that will already be in place, all we need is a street market licence, which are easy to arrange with 2 weeks notice, when we know the dates.
Bear in mind, the later in the year, the greater the chance of bad weather and then nobody turns up.
IIRC, each trader (assuming there end up being food/non-food traders) will also need a street trading licence. That was the case when there were stalls outside the swimming pool a couple of times a few years ago. It was a bit of a pain - having to go over to Lewisham to register. Would need to build in some time for that if still the case.
If the timing works out, it might be worth considering tying in with the Havelock Walk Open Studios weekend, and possibly also the Christmas Tree switch on. Not sure whether it would be good or bad to have lots of FH festivities over one weekend!
Definitely a good idea IMO to have lots going on at the same time. This tends to draw more people as more is going on & peeps that come for one of the events will then follow on to the others - plus all advertising could be shared to make it more attractive to a much wider audience.
Have HW set the date for Winter Wonderland yet Ed, or shall I speak to Liz about this?
BTW brilliant suggestion & sure @Michael will work with the dates FH Soc turn on the lights to slot in, if it’s the start of December
No date set yet for HW xmas (unfortunately not that organised!). The last two years it has been the last weekend in November, so I imagine that will be the default this year too. I think if there was good reason to move it (i.e. lots of other stuff happening in FH), we could shift the date a bit.
The Horniman Museum Xmas Fair tends to be that first weekend in December…
