I can do that now without going to the pub.
Ha don’t be so antisocial
I’d quite like to keep the local pubs open.
I get better BBQ at home. But yes. I miss my visits to the pubs locally. But I’m also as wary of the actions of others as I am of my own (after a couple of drinks). I’m guessing those with sizable beer gardens will fair better than others. But I also have to wonder how the toilets will work. I had to queue long times for the loo in my club days. I’m too old for that shit now.
The Dulwich Beer Dispensary (which has done a bit of a hokey cokey in terms of opening/closing/opening/closing) is open for takeaways at the moment. They’ve never yet been open at the right time of year to use their outside space - and, as they’ve kept all the restaurant tables, can probably distance reasonably easily.
Not of any immediate help, but …
The old Windmill would have been perfect as an indoor social distancing place.
But even the new Windmill (if the developer ever stops playing silly games) could work well. There’s no outside area - not even a smoking zone - but because he’s departed from the approved design with the apparent aim of turning it into two small shops or flats, he can have very separate in and out doors and an easily divisible space where we could have booths. Long term I know, but could be ready before the winter drives everyone in from beer gardens.
We’d have to find a publican first. Anyone know anyone who might be interested?
To clarify: it’s the entire ground floor of the building in this rather wonky photo. Looks like two shops, but it isn’t. The unfinished looking bit in the middle is the entrance to the flats.
The shenanigans with the developer at the Windmill - that’s exactly why we fought to protect the All Inn One from a similar redevelopment scheme.
All Inn One has a huge garden, perfect for safe socialising - more so than any other pub in Forest Hill.
The Honor Oak had a member of staff in there yesterday when I walked past. As it has large gardens front and rear it should be a good candidate to be able re-open safely! (As safely as is possible anyway)
EXCELLENT! That’s fab.
Probably a good move to re-open on a quieter Monday, and once the hordes of people dying for a pub experience have had their fill on the Saturday.
Does anyone really miss the pub as much as social media would have us believe?
The Brockley Jack is opening on Monday 6th July - which I think is eminently sensible. Take the learnings from the 4th. Its a Green King pub so its book tables etc, use Greene King app when possible
Just had a look at the Wetherspoon site. They do not seem to be going down the only table order route / limiting numbers of drinks though no sports TV in July
No booking of tables
App encouraged but where unable to order from the table (ie they have no smart phone), customers are able to order from one of the designated till points at the bar. However, customers may not remain at the bar, once they have ordered and paid – they should return to their table"
It is not our plan to impose a specific limit on alcoholic drinks consumed, with each customer managed individually.
Yes. Signage will be in place on all corridors and staircases leading to toilets, asking customers to ‘please keep left’.
A hand-sanitiser station will be located close to toilets’ entrance/exit doors. Where possible, toilet lobby doors will be propped open.
Signage will be displayed in the toilets reminding customers about hand-washing frequency and technique.
Sounds like the Capitol will be much the same really…
I miss it to a certain extent. I can get cheaper beer of my choice at home but I do miss a pint in the pub on a Friday night, nodding at the regulars, chatting to a few folks I know, watching the world go by and generally having a nice comfortable time in a convivial atmosphere. When I was young the pub the center of our social world but times were different then…
Yes, our pub is the focal point in the countryside.
All Inn One
Anybody know if the Blythe Hill Tavern is planning to reopen? I am a fan of all the Forest Hill pubs but fancy a good pint of Guinness.
No news yet.
How about the POW in Perry Rise, it is all boarded up at the moment. Any ideas as to why?
