Cox's Walk Bridge Closure

The Council’s permission to cut the trees down lapsed in December… so they immediately applied for new permission. Comments on the application are open until Sunday 10th January. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=simple&searchType=Application Application number 20/AP/3632. Already over 100 objections (1 in support).

The Campaign to Save Cox’s Walk Footbridge Oaks is objecting on the grounds that the value of the trees and environment were not taken into account, it has not been shown that the trees are causing damage, and there are alternative repairs that keep the trees. It has also put in a formal complaint to Southwark Council over the way its alternative design was assessed: conflict of interest, incomplete assessment of documents supplied and lack of positive engagement to address issues.

Dulwich College opened up several of their playing fields in the last lockdown which was great. Probably would get ruined at the moment due to muddy conditions so understand if not opening this time. A golf course would be particularly vulnerable to being ruined. I agree it would be lovely to have the whole green area in public use but somehow i think if it wasn’t owned by the college it would have all been built on by now.

Great News, at last. Southwark Highways has posted an outline proposal to repair the footbridge and retain the oak trees. They will be consulting on this in May/June with a view to carrying out the work in the autumn, after the bird breeding season.

There is actually a cold war government nuclear bunker next to the club house so HM might get a say on the land use.
It is technically decommissioned as a radio outpost, but I believe still government owned

Thanks, clausy. There was a lot of luck involved with engineers, tree protectors and elections turning up at just the right time!
