Could be there be a possibility he worked there? I work in a public space, when I go into work via the main entrance and there’s a queue, I get comments and tutted at. But I can’t wear my pass because I’ll get stopped and abused.
Just a thought… but eggs are used to produce vaccines.
Pauline, youths is often a word used in London to describe not just a person of a certain age but also a person of a certain character.
I think the better choice of word for ak8 to use would have been “hoodrat”.
Hoodrat: A person who lives and exhibits attitudes of inner city life. usually a negative connotation that implies poor upbringing, bad manners, little to no education and low class behavior
While your son falls into the youth age category, I am sure he doesn’t fall into the hoodrat category.
An interesting thought, and maybe there’s some substance to it, though all I could find was the following disappointing news: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/27/health/chicken-egg-flu-vaccine-intl-hnk-scli/index.html
I suspect with more people at home there’s a lot more demand for eggs and derivative foods (cakes!), and you can’t just make the chickens lay 10 times faster
Eggs are also useful for easy, hot, nutrious meals. There will be a lot of people unused to cooking a lot who need to sudden create a lot of meals at home.
He was in an out in a few mins empty handed and off to another local shop to pick up the item he didn’t find.
Might I add context is everything as @oakr stated “this is an emotional time for everyone”. Keeping responses in context to the actual conversation rather than blowing things unnecessarily out of proportion will keep everyone sane.
Stay healthy and well distanced everyone!
Ps. I hope this demand for eggs subsides as I could def. do with some.
Brown & Green Life in Crystal Palace are selling 6 for £2.50, max 2 boxes per person. There’s a £20 minimum online and we might be a bit far for delivery but perhaps give them a call and see if you can arrange safe collection?
Or perhaps there is another small business even closer that’s selling eggs?
Also check out this list of SE23 and SE4 shops offering collection and delivery.
Hi @ak8,
There were eggs at the Forest hill Supermarket (platform 2 side of Fhill st) last night.
The small shops diagonally opposite the Honor Oak Pub have lots of eggs.
Sorry if I came across as rude, I just feel that teenagers get a hard time and at this time it is so hard for them to keep occupied. Many of them are doing good and cycling to drop off for vulnerable people right now including my son so I feel they should be applauded regardless of what they are wearing.
Take care and stay safe
Potatoes n eggs I fancy but no where to get
PM me your address and I’ll drop both on your doorstep or window ledge either late tonight or late tomorrow night if I can get them as I am doing more shops when no-one is around and dropping to peeps that can’t get out, I can wait for payment when this is all over, please let me know and stay safe.
